Creating opportunities for engagement

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on urban design - to create opportunities for neighbors to engage with one another.

Walking on Second Ave

As I walked to work this morning, I was reminded of a conversation about public spaces last summer. Someone brought up this space- underneath the Shelby Street Pedestrian bridge. Wouldn't it make a great area for a farmers market or flea market?
